Happy Tales - Quinto & Ajax
QUINTO - Injured Search Dog on Path to Recovery
(Paw & Spinal Injury & Undiagnosable Illness)
“My canine partner, Quinto, is a search & rescue dog with ILL-WIS Search Dogs. In his brief but spectacular career he helped find lost and missing people with our unit in Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.
Sadly, he suffered from a paw injury when he was 9 months old resulting in surgery, as well as had a long-term mysterious necrotic tissue disease (as of yet undiagnosed). When he started showing great pain at the age of 4, Mary Kay evaluated him and helped our vet diagnosis the start of osteoarthritis of the spine -- probably the result of chronic lameness from his early paw problems.
I have had to put him on ‘medical leave’ from the unit. In just a few short months of care, his daily pain has been greatly reduced as Mary Kay addresses the underlying issues of his injuries. We both hope he may one day be well enough to return back to work. But even if he cannot, I know our sessions are giving him the comfortable retirement he deserves. You should see how happy he is to see her when she comes to our house!”

AJAX - Retired Search Dog Has Comfortable Retirement
(Spondylosis)
“Mary Kay came to the rescue of my Search & Rescue Dog Ajax when he showed signs of spondylosis toward the end of his career. Through her expert care, Ajax was able to keep doing what he loved best (search work!) for the better part of a year with our search unit, ILL-WIS Search Dogs. When he retired, Mary Kay continued his care until his peaceful passing in December, 2012.
What I remember best about his retirement is that he would go into his weekly session with her as a sore and crippled old man, and come out walking tall and acting like a pup again. Thank you Mary Kay for making his last years comfortable and happy!”
