CIRRUS - Unrelenting and unstoppable with 3 legs!!
A forever soul mate.
(shoulder dysfunction, amputation, terminal disease)

“I met Mary Kay in the summer of 2010. My soul mate Cirrus, an 8 year old Flat-Coated Retriever who was a Breed Champion and had competed and titled in the highest levels of obedience and agility and had field and tracking titles, had been limping off and on since January of that year. Extensive Veterinary exam had revealed nothing specific and
Physical Rehab was recommended. I was doubtful but had to do something for the love of my life.

Mary Kay began working with Cirrus, giving me “home-work” to do myself in between her treatments. The treatments helped Cirrus a lot but not completely. Mary Kay, with her kind, caring hands found areas of concern and recommended further veterinary follow-up. There was much more testing, followed by surgeries with an odd, migrating infection found in the area of her shoulder. After 2 surgeries it was determined by a specialist that the only chance to completely get rid of the infection was to remove Cirrus’ right front leg which was done the day before Christmas Eve, 2010. Mary Kay was with us every step of the way, helping with both her PT treatments for Cirrie and with emotional and moral support for me. Unfortunately after removal of the leg it was found that cancer was the hidden culprit in Cirrus’ condition and it was an aggressive type.

True to her nature Mary Kay continued to help us and in a very short time Cirrus was back doing almost everything she could do with 4 legs though using only 3! She still ran our house, cruised the counters for anything yummy and even dug holes under the bushes! When running in the yard you almost could not differentiate her from the other dogs - she was able to get along so well because of Mary Kay’s knowledgeable assistance. Cirrie even went to our National Specialty in June of 2011 and, being in the Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America Hall of Fame, was shown in the Ring of Honor. She paraded around the ring carrying a small U.S. flag in her mouth with her single front foot keeping time to the Sousa March playing over the loud speaker. It is a memory I know many besides me will never forget!

When the end for Cirrus was approaching and her cancer caused her to begin to lose use of her hind legs, Mary Kay continued to assist us with comforting treatments as well as guidance for home care and various pieces of equipment to help Cirrus continue to get around. After a year of help with everything physically possible, Mary Kay assisted me with the emotional pain of sending Cirrus to “the Rainbow Bridge”. She was there at the end, holding my breaking heart, as I stroked Cirrus’ head. You will not find a more kind, caring professional to aid in the care of your pet, and of yourself as you care for them, than Mary Kay.”
BITS - Wild and energetic Flat Coat!!
(shoulder injury and compensated movement)
“In the years since Cirrus introduced us Mary Kay has helped two of my other dogs. Bits, a 2-year old, suffered a shoulder injury and could not maintain normal function of that leg. It was very scary for me having lost her mother less than a year earlier but Mary Kay, once again easing my mind, assured me this was not the same thing. Again, with her expertise, skilled treatments and home exercise guidance for us, Mary Kay has brought us to a point where Bits is running and keeping up with her “wild man” brother in the yard, bouncing around the furniture in the house, and doing all the things young energetic Flat-Coats do without slipping back into her compromised movement. Bits’ leg now stays in the normal plane of her body with very clean and lovely extension as she moves. When we started Bits’ treatments in June of 2012, Bittie could not be gaited in the breed ring without limping. Less than 2 months later she got her first major win and is now (August 2013) one win away from her Breed Championship!”

***** News flash!!! September 7, 2013 – Supported Entry at the Kenosha Kennel Club – Bits showed like a dream with her best and most elegant movement ever…….and won a 5 point major! She’s finished!!! And now she is……Champion Fancy’s Little Bitta Heaven! Unbelievable! *****
“Additionally, my boy Russell, an 8 year old breed Champion with a qualifying score in the highest level of obedience, had developed trouble in his low back and spine as well as shoulders through his life while training in agility and competing in obedience. These difficulties, unfortunately, forced his retirement from the training and competition in obedience. Mary Kay’s gentle yet focused treatments are helping him to improve and to be comfortable enough to run and play at home (and climb the apple trees in our backyard to get apples to eat and keep me from making pies!), and be happy in his retirement!

I cannot recommend Mary Kay highly enough! She shares her knowledge and expertise through the treatments her hands are able to give to assist the animals and gives from the depth of her kind heart to assist the owner. Her treatments are totally complete – physical and mental aids for the animals assisting them through pain and disability, and emotional care for the owners. Whether your pet has had an injury, ailment, or old age infirmity you CANNOT hope to find better help to bring you both through to the best possible condition than Mary Kay! I can’t adequately express what a blessing she has been to me and to my dogs. I do not know what I would have done these recent years without her!

THANK-YOU Mary Kay, is simply not enough.”
